September 2017 Blotted Recap // I Tried To Post More Regularly + Read A Lot

Hello! I came back from my hiatus this month and then didn’t post at all!

I know, I know, I’m that #PerfectBlogger that you all aspire to be.

But this month I actually read quite quite a lot!

I read 12 books and I’M TOO PROUD OF MYSELF. After months of only reading 4-5 books I FINALLY STARTED READING A LOT.

(Maybe it’s because school started and I got exposure to the library?)

BOOKS I READ

Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza ★★★★★

  • The cover slightly makes me cringe, but this book was actually really good! It tackled racial issues and it was so realistic! [review]

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart ★★★★★

  • The way this story was told was seriously so unique! I never read thrillers but this was pretty good. [review]

Dear Martin by Nic Stone ★★★★★

  • HELLO THIS WAS ONE OF MY MOST ANTICIPATED. It’s actually really short (and also I love the cover) and it was mainly about black discrimination (!!!) [review]

Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay Ely ★★★★★

  • THE COVER IS SO STUNNING OKAY. It takes place in this crime-ridden city and the main character is really good at shooting! [review]

Kissing Max Holden by Katy Upperman ☆☆☆☆☆

  • This was a DNF. The main character was so annoying and there was slut-shaming and NO THANK YOU. [review]

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell ★★★★★

  • This took place in college and Cath had anxiety and she was so smol and sweet and I loved her! [review]

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman ★★★★★

  • This is one of my favorites! The main character is half-Japanese and I could relate with her SO HARD. [review]

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust ★★★★★

  • The characters were so complex and I LOVED THEM ALL. [review]

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo ★★★★★

  • MORE ASIAN YA HECK YEAH. The main character is Korean and she watches Korean dramas and watch Korean dramas?? It’s like we’re the same person??? [review]

Warcross by Marie Lu ★★★★★

  • EVEN MORE ASIAN YA. This was basically my most anticipated September release because I LOVE MARIE LU. [review]

The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo ★★★★★

  • Leigh Bardugo is honestly so fantastic at writing and I loved these small stories! [review]

An Enchantment of Ravens ★★★★☆

  • This was another of my anticipated and sadly, it didn’t live up to the extensive hype! But I didn’t hate it like May did?? [review]

Guys ALL OF MY READS THIS MONTH WERE FIVE STARS (except for two why do I keep on DNFING books?)

Wow this also happened last month I think I’m getting less picky or maybe I just have really good picks?

ANTICIPATED OCTOBER RELEASES

(I’ve KIND of figured out how to format a bunch of images in a row? Except there’s no way to link each image to Goodreads or anything, which sucks, but at least it looks fine?)

(Also there are SO MANY October releases I’m hyped for ahhhh.)

SCHOOL

School started this September!

(It started on September 5th and I actually thought it started on September 1st so that was a nice surprise.)

Anyways, funnily enough, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be posting a lot more during the school year.

B-FEST

There was B-Fest this month! It was my first time going to one, and it was on the same day as the Boston Teen Author festival, so I wasn’t able to go to the Boston Teen Author Festival (but I probably wouldn’t have been able to go anyways).

Anyways, they were giving away Batman: Nightwalker ARCs and I HAD TO GO.

Sadly, I only got there for the second half and I missed getting the Batman ARCs but I still had fun answering questions and playing games. I actually won two ARCs! Zenith and Top Ten, and I am HYPED for Zenith!

Wow extensive YA knowledge actually comes in handy sometimes?

OTHER

  • One of my status updates on Goodreads got over 200 likes wow I feel so proud.
  • My little brother and mother went away to China without the rest of us and I WANT TO GO TO CHINA. But also we get to eat pizza and lots of frozen foods.
  • Wegman’s opened near us! (This isn’t really relevant but I LIKE SUPERMARKETS.)
  • We also went up to Massachusetts and ate some americanized Chinese food! I LIKE AUTHENTIC MORE. Americanized is so… saucy.
  • My dad signed me and my younger sister up for a singing group lesson and… we went to the wrong school. And then when we actually went to the right school, it turns out that the main age of the group was around 70. (When I asked my dad, he said the age range was 1-20???)

Tell me your thoughts! (please)

What happened in YOUR September? What are some of your anticipated reads for October? Did you read a lot of books? Do you like going to supermarkets? Did you go to any bookish festivals?

  1. Like, eleven of the October releases you mentioned are ones that I REALLYREALLY WANT. I’m not even going to bother with scrolling up and down [move it all around] to list them. It’s too confronting because I know I probably won’t get to buy any of them during October. Or November, really..
You did appear to have an awesome reading month! I LOVEDLOVED Warcross and can’t wait for the sequel. Fangirl is one I own and have yet to read; but.. Dear Martin, The Language of Thorns [YAY FAIRYLOOT] and An Enchantment of Ravens are books that I really want to own. Like, now. Won’t be happening though. Except for The Language of Thorns since that’ll be in the next FairyLoot box, haha. [Oh, and I preordered Turtles All The Way Down so I kind of cheated on that one as well.]

About the singing lesson: Obviously your dad just wanted some time off and felt like “dumping” you guys somewhere, haha! [Honestly, my parents did that quite a bit when my brother and I were younger. :’D]

Awesome post! [And long, but I like those!]

      1. Same here!

Since I moved in with my boyfriend, I haven’t even checked out the library yet – DON’T SHOOT ME – but that’s mainly because I have over 130 books of my own that I haven’t read yet.. and I’m pretty sure I’d lose my mind if I’d be adding library books into the mix at this point.. :’D
Still three weeks to go before I’ll have it but I’ll probably read it immediately! :’D

        You’re welcome!!

  2. Ooooh Americanized Chinese food! When I went to the US in July I had a lot of Americanized Chinese food, and it was great, but then I started missing the Chinese food back home (I’m from Hong Kong). By the way, it’s kinda sad that there’s only chicken noodle soup when I went and the noodles were like soup ingredients? I like noodles in soup more hahahaha.

And oh my goodness, you guys went to an elderly singing group lesson? I’m laughing so hard right now! Did you guys continue going and did you befriend some of the old people? How was the experience? I really want to know!

I WANT TO READ THE LANGUAGE OF THORNS AND STARFISH SO BAD!! I saw like 12354234314 reviews of them and I really really want to get those books but my mom says I have to finish reading the books I currently own but still haven’t read yet before getting new ones 😦 #bookhoardersworstnightmare

    1. OOH YOU’RE FROM HONG KONG? I freaking love meeting other Chinese people XD. Chicken noodle soup? TBH I almost never eat that. I LOVE AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD ME AND MY FAMILY ALWAYS LOVE EATING AUTHENTIC FOOD.

Ahahaha yes… the elderly singing group lesson… Um.. I was super scared tbh so I stayed outside of the classroom but my sister went inside and apparently it was super awkward for her! Last week was the first meeting, by the way.

Also, my mom is visiting China right now (I think she’s somewhere near Jiangsu, Dongtai as of right now!) Me and my sister are waiting for my mom to come back so we can ask our parents to take our places in the singing group XD

YES YOU SHOULD READ LANGUAGE OF THORNS AND STARFISH. Ahaha my dad always tells me that I have to read all the books I buy!

  3. Fangirl was so awesome! I loved it 😀 You should definitely read Carry On next!! I WANT TO READ LANGUAGE OF THORNS SO BAD. But I’m broke and, my parents won’t allow me to buy another book until I finish the ones I have now 😦

OCTOBER HAS SUCH AMAZING NEW RELEASES?? I’m stoked for All the Crooked Saints – the Raven Cycle was amazing and tbh I love Maggie’s writing. AND TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN YES PLEASE. I’ve missed John Green’s books so badly and am absolutely ready for another book that will tear me apart 😀 And Ship of the Dead (Magnus Chase) is also coming out which is!! exciting!! because i’ve waited like 2 years for this book ;-; the other books you mentioned all sound awesome and i will check them out asap 🙂

ahh i’m so glad you enjoyed my post!! thanks for linking 🙂

i’m so psyche for your october posts because from what you told us they sound awesome! 😀

    1. Yay! I really want to read Carry On! It sounds so cute! (Also is it the actual Simon book or is it the fanfiction that Cath wrote?)

AHHH YOU SHOULD READ LANGUAGE OF THORNS IT’S SO CREEPY AND I LOVE IT. Do you have a library near you??

OMG THIS OCTOBER IS TRYING TO KILL ME WHAT EVEN. SO MANY NEW RELEASES I’M DYING??

Okay but did you expect something more from the cover of John Green’s new book? I WANTED STACKED TURTLES OKAY.

(Also did you hear about Hank Green’s new book??)

OF COURSE I LINKED TO YOUR POST ❤

      Thank you!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. It is!! (It’s Rainbow Rowell’s version of Cath’s fic – not exactly the same, but kind of similar??)

YES OMG THAT COVER. I do have a library but it sucks and never has any good books. 😦

        I KNOWW RIGHT.

OMG THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN??AWESOME!!! turtles are adorable 😀

        yes yes YES IT SOUNDS LIKE AN ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE THING. 😉 but seriously though i’m so glad for all these wonderful books by all these wonderful people ;-;

        Like

        1. Ooh really?? I REALLY WANT TO READ CARRY ON NOW. I think the difference between the “official” books and Cath’s fanfiction is the romance between Simon and Baz?? But I’m not too sure, heh.

My library has a system where I can request books from other libraries to be shipped to my library! You should check if you have that 🙂

YES I Want to READ HANK’S BOOK SO BAD. Even though I haven’t really watched John Green/Hank Green’s videos but stilll

          Liked by 1 person

          1. That’s basically it! Cath’s fic was basically just what she thought the eighth book would be like + simon/baz (honestly they’re so adorable i die.)

Ooh, that sounds cool! My library *does* have an option to request books, but it takes ages (like 6-7 months). 😦

Yeah even I don’t really watch their channel xD buT I LOVE JOHN GREEN AND I’ve also seen Hank’s biology study sessions on Crash Course ANYWAY THEY’RE RELATED SO THAT MEANS HANK’S BOOK WILL ALSO PROBABLY BE VERY GOOD 😀

I’m sooooo excited for John Green’s new release. Wild Beauty sounds so good as well, I’ve been seeing 27 Hours EVERYWHERE and… well, there are too many books this October, I don’t know what to do with myself?!
Type of blogging personalities? YES PLEASE, that sounds like such a cool post, I NEED TO READ IT RIGHT NOW.
Hope you’ll have an amazing month! xx

YES I TOLD YOU MAY. I took the picture of Zenith and Top Ten and cried internally about not winning Batman!

  7. YEAH I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVED GENUINE FRAUD. And I have ARCs of so many October releases that I should be reading right now; I should really get back to that! 😅 BUT I’m glad to see that you enjoyed so many of the books you read!

And yeah for getting Zenith! I was so glad when I got it at Bookcon, and I can’t wait to read it! I heard they were giving out Batman ARCs at B-Fest, but I didn’t even bother to go because the one time I did, only three other people were participated. 😂

Congratulations on 300 followers; that’s amazing! 😍 And thank you so much for linking back to my post! Laughing at that part where you almost joined an elderly singing lesson. XD

    1. SAME. I HAVE WAY TOO MANY OCTOBER ARCS I NEED TO READ BUT HAVEN’T 😥

Ooh haha I wish I was there for B-Fest! TBH I would be okay if only three other people participated because you had to answer questions about Superheroes to win the Batman ARC and I SUCK AT SUPERHERO COMIC STUFF

Thanks ❤ ❤ MIKAELA I LOVE EACH AND EVERY OF YOUR POSTS.

  8. It sounds like you had overall a great month :)!

I just wanted to respond, because I really like going to supermarkets too! I don’t know anyone else who does, except you now :D! When I’m on holiday, I always like to go to a supermarket, to see what kind of different things they have and probably buy some things and eat them there (food and drinks) or take them home with me (non-perishable foods). I’m relatively new to your blog, but I really liked reading this September wrap-up post. I’m glad you had so many great reads this month! I think my favourite read of September was A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard. I also read some Dutch books this month (I’m from the Netherlands) so that’s not much useful to talk about in the online English blogging community.
