How to Get Rid of your Blogging Stress (from the non-expert aka me)

Is being completely blogging stress-free even possible?

Probably not. Unless you quit. (But let’s assume for now that you, hopefully, are not quitting.)

Anyways~ bloggers have so many “responsibilities”? I mean, technically you really don’t have to do much to be a blogger (except for… blog), but being a blogger usually comes with a lot of other things.

I feel like?? I talk about how hard blogging is?? in all of my posts?? BUT OKAY. IT’S HARD. AND I’M A LITTLE TANGERINE TRYING TO LIVE MY TANGERINE LIFE.

But despite all of those things that I complain about, I still blog! Because I love the blogging community! And I’m pretty sure that’s why so many other bloggers are still here, even though they (we?) hardly get compensation for all the work that’s done.

I love all of my two (2) audience members that are here!!

div2.1

SMOL LIST OF BLOGGING RESPONSIBILITIES
THAT I MENTIONED EARLIER

  • writing posts consistently… see, blogging is about… blogging and sharing your thoughts, but in order to gain an audience it’s important to actually do it on a schedule or in a timely fashion.*
  • responding to comments… I’ve seen other people’s posts about why they follow blogs, and one of the things that they usually mention is how they interact with their followers (i.e. responding to comments). If you don’t respond to your comments, your commenters** (commentars? commentors? common doors??) won’t have much reason to comment.
  • commenting on other blogs… Commenting on other people’s blogs is a great way to get your own blog traffic and to get your name out there! Usually, bloggers will comment back and if they like your blog they’ll probably follow you*** and therefore you’ll have more traffic!

*I know. This is shocking. WE CAN’T POST ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS AND HAVE A THOUSAND FOLLOWERS?

**This probably is supposed to be commentators but COMMENTATORS JUST SEEMS LIKE THE WRONG WORD FOR SOME REASON.

***You can probably also force get them to be your friends if you’re nice to them… (literally give them mangoes food and they’ll like you!) after all, that’s how I got all of my blogging friends

div2.1

I talk more about blogging responsibilities in this post! (Actually, this is from a long time ago and I was really cringy back then.)

personal blogging responsibilites

div1.1

read and comment on posts that
genuinely interest you

You don’t have to force yourself to comment on each and every post that appears in your feed. If there’s a review by a blogger that you follow that you’re not interested in reading? Maybe like it (if you want) but just move on.

“True Fans” don’t need to comment on every single post by a blogger that they like. I’ve felt really guilty about posts that I haven’t commented on by bloggers that I like, but recently I’ve been trying not to force myself to read each and every one of their posts. (Which is a thing that I would do.)

And if you haven’t been on WordPress for a long time? No, you don’t have to scroll down to the place you last were, and then comment on every post that is in your feed. (Something else that I used to do… and then fail at.)

Also, I know someone who used to be the first one to comment on every post ever and it really stressed her out and that’s not good for you.

div1.1

don’t force yourself to make extremely
long comments on each post

If you are really, really excited about a post and want to make an extremely long comment to show the blogger how much you love their blog and their post and everything, feel free to!

But if you feel obligated to leave extremely long comments- you don’t need to. For a comment, just try to mention one or two things that you liked or wanted to comment on!

You don’t have to throw your undying love and devotion* at them 24/7, although I’m sure that the other person loves you also and appreciates it.

(I think we’ve already covered that commenting “Great post!!! Here’s my blog post check it out” isn’t the Model Comment.)

*Throw cakes though. I LIKE CHEESECAKE. Just saying.

div1.1

make your blogging schedule fit you

There is this famous old saying: “Make your blogging schedule fit you; don’t make yourself fit your blogging schedule.”

It’s actually not famous or old.* It was made up, two seconds ago, by me. I think I stole the idea for that quote from another quote though?? But I really can’t remember??

make your blogging schedule fit you — julianna 2k18 (remember me forever)

Anyways, think about when you have time to write a post, and when you feel like you can work on your blog and everything. Then structure your posting schedule around that. If you really, really have no time at all? Maybe take a hiatus or a break, if you want to!

*I BET YOU COULDN’T TELL.

div1.1

if you can, plan ahead and manage
your time

Procrastination is the enemy of… everyone. Probably not Benjamin Franklin, though. He did all this productive stuff every day (and honestly the internet will not stop talking about it).

BUT WE ARE NOT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, ARE WE?

(no)

I procrastinate! You probably procrastinate! Everyone probably procrastinates!* It’s really hard to be productive when you know you have to, but planning ahead for blogging and writing posts ahead of time will definitely help. Obviously, this isn’t something really required because most of the time write my posts the night before I post them. Or the day I post them.

But if you actually write a post in advance, you’ll feel so productive and so much better and you”ll have a couple of days (or longer) to relax… and possibly write another blog post.

(You don’t have to write another blog post. I wouldn’t write another blog post, I don’t know why I suggested that.)

Anyways, another note: procrastination does not mean that you’re dumb or stupid or that you don’t work as hard as other people, okay? This has been proven. Go look it up, because I saw it somewhere… on Instagram.

*EXCEPT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN… OBVIOUSLY.

div1.1

So… these might not necessarily work or be a magic cure to your blogging stress. Everyone has unique situations. Something that might make me stressed might be perfectly normal and even fantastic for you!

These are just some suggestions on how to “improve” or change your blogging life, and I based these off of how I want to improve my own blogging life.

So is this just a goals list?? Is it?? I don’t know??

  1. Love this post! I think managing time is definitely key. I don’t know how I would blog without scheduling posts in advance! Interacting with other bloggers via comments, social media, etc. also makes a huge difference because it makes you feel more integrated into the community. ❤

  2. Yes to EVERYTHING !! I used to feel like I had to read everything AND comment on everything and I’d feel bad if I had nothing to say about a post but meh, not anymore. I just don’t have the time or energy. I try to like all posts I read and… like (duh fadwa, obviously) and comments on the one I have things to say about. It actually does take a lot of the pressure of.

I have a blogging schedule of Mon/Wed/Fri that I follow almost religiously but when I first started I used to write the post the day of, which stressed me out and I found that the quality of my posts was a bit less than it is when I wrote stress free, so I started writing everything the week-end before. Now, besides reviews, I’m a month ahead of Schedule on my posts which ALSO takes a lot of pressure off blogging because I can afford not to write anything if I’m feeling uninspired or just don’t have time.

I LOVE THIS POST SO MUCH !!!

    1. Fadwa. I suck, and I literally replied to your comment over a month late ❤

But yes!! It's so stressful to feel like you have to read EVERYTHING and comment on everything and even if you don't have stuff to say about it, I used to force myself to comment on posts anyways :/

But yes same! I used to write my posts the day of if I even wrote posts at all and it was not good at all, but now I've been more relaxed and it's actually great. I'm like.. two days ahead in my scheduling but it's OKAY. (ALSO A MONTH AHEAD GOOD JOB FADWA <3)

      THANK YOU ❤ ❤

  3. i definitely agree about not reading every post. just because i like a blogger and follow them doesn’t mean i will like every single post or will even have time to read every single post. i certainly try; but when things get in the way, and my email gets backed up, i just have to be ok with not reading all of them.

    1. yes exactly! recently i haven’t been blog hopping like… at all but i’ve tried to be less committing about it and it’s definitely helped get rid of the guilt!! I still try to blog hop when I can, but it’s okay to not blog hop constantly ❤

how stressed am i blogging wise? hmm let‘s see… on a scale from 1 to 10 i‘m definitely at a 50 :‘) no but seriously blogging has been so draining recently like whenever i would think about replying to my comments i‘d already feel exhausted and be in a bad mood. i think it‘s to do with my mood swings because other times i get really excited about commenting and scheduling ahead and fkdkfkf it‘s so frustrating

I WANNA BE A GOOD BLOGGER BUT IT‘S HARD.

and omg i used to do that thing where i‘d scroll down in my reader to the last post I commented on and then go through every single one. WTF WHO WAS I WHY WOULD I DO THAT

anyway i actually really liked this post and i found your tips really helpful? i often feel guilty if i don‘t comment on EVERY post by my fav ppl but i should really just.. not

omgggg yes I used to do that too when I'd scroll in my reader and comment on EVERY POST and like?? why?? did I do that?? I ended up commenting on like 15 tops and then leaving all the others alone and feeling guilty WHY

YES YOU SHOULDN'T FEEL GUILTY THEY'LL(WE'LL) UNDERSTAND

  5. This is such a great post, I love it. I am SUCH a stressed blogger, I am TRYING to be more relaxed, one step at a time, but sometimes the stress just catches up with me and it feels like am not doing enough and I am drowning and low-key screaming about everything and that is the worst hahahaha.
Your advice is so welcome here, I love it. We don’t have to comment on everything and we don’t always need to write 20000 lines comments if we’re not inspired. What matters is that we do it when we want to, because really, it shows in our comments and most importantly, it makes us WAY HAPPIER so let’s take care of ourselves and try and do that. This is my advice I can never follow haha, but I dooooooo try so… maybe I’m getting some points here?? haha.

    1. I replied-commented on this really late but thank you so much for your comment ❤

Ahhhhhhh Marie you are such an amazing blogger, whether or not you post consistently or not!! ❤ I think all of us know that you have such amazing posts and if you don't do everything, then we still appreciate youuuu ❤

Yes!! I read this thing online about if you can only save one person, save yourself & take care of your physical/mental health. YOU GET POINTS FOR EVERYTHING. YOU GET POINTS FOR JUST EXISTING. ❤

  6. LOVE THIS POST!! I totally dig your advice not to write mile long comments. I used to stress that my comments were simple but I simply don’t gush as much as others… That’s okay… But YES to so much blogger stress!! (Especially about comments which stump me sometimes…) ❤

  7. YOUR HILARIOUS CAN I JUST SAY! “Are we benjamin franklin? No” “i saw it…on instgram” and more iconic moments but I’m lazy! I do like to comment on every post of my favourite blogger’s blogs but i do get behind sometimes! i do try and comment on my fave’s posts and i mostly do but i know even with your blog i don’t think i’ve commented on EVERYTHING?? and like yeah. “WE CAN’T POST ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS AND HAVE A THOUSAND FOLLOWERS?” BUT THIS IS LITERALLY ME!

    1. ILSA I LOVE YOU
also I replied over a month late OOPS
LMAOOOOO I’M LAZY TOO IT’S OKAYY

YES SAME I DON’T THINK I’VE COMMENTED ON EVERYTHING FOR ANY BLOG AT ALL??
also ILSA ARE YOU TRYING TO DEFAME ME BY BEING THIS MIRACLE WITH 1K FOLLOWERS WHO POSTS EVERY THREE MONTHS

  8. THIS POST, YES!!!
I swear I’m so unorganised, I mean I am on a break at the moment but I do get unorganised very quickly, I just get distracted by TV (Brooklyn 99) and then the next thing I know instead of writing blog posts I’m 7 episodes in to B99 eating chocolate cake and ignoring my blog!!
I do like the make your blogging schedule fit you though, I will for sure be looking at doing that when I come back, it’s a lot less pressure that way, great idea!
I also get the not commenting on your favourite bloggers post if it doesn’t interest you, you always feel a little bad because they are your favourite but sometimes you just aren’t interested and it’s just easier to like it then force yourself to comment 🙂
    BUT YES AMAZING POST <3333

    1. I’M UNORGANIZED TOO. Lmao that’s literally me with Friends and every tv show ever. (Should I watch b99?? It sounds SO GOOD.)

Yes!! ❤ Definitely try making your schedule fit you, I really hope it works/is working ❤

Yes exactly!! I've forced myself to comment so many times but now I just let myself like them instead of forcing it out.

      TYSM!!! ❤

  9. I love this post and agree so much!! I don’t have a regular schedule bc I just don’t have enough time to be writing and reading posts daily, and I do feel guilty about that sometimes. So many of my lovely blogger friends post a few times a week and I often feel bad that I don’t get to read or comment on all of their posts. I feel like the best thing is to figure out what works best for you in terms of posting and engagement, though, and I hope everyone understands ❤

  10. What a great post! Sometimes I do get very stressed out blogging, which is a shame because blogging is funned books are fun so shouldn’t it all be fun? And I love it so it isn’t like I want to stop. But sometimes I just don’t have the time. And I feel like the days that I don’t post or comment are days that I am losing followers or blog traffic. I’ve been falling off my blogging schedule train, and it’s been stressing me out, but honestly I am so busy and need to find the time to write blog posts. Ugh this comment was all over but basically it is I AGREE blogging is stressful and I need to work on managing it.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I agree! IT ALL SHOULD BE FUN but it’s actually so muych work, which sucks. but I also feel like that can apply to everything, and we always have to do things that aren’t fun which sucks :/ Ahhhhh yes, maybe you should take a break to catch up on everything? If you think that you need to~

  12. I love this post! Thank you so much for writing it. 🙂 I really needed to read it right now- I haven’t been on wordpress in a few days and somehow there are like a thousand posts I missed?? But your post really reminded me that it’s not necessary for me to go back and read all of them!

  13. YAAAAS I LOVE THIS POST SO MUCH. I absolutely hate the feeling of being “forced” to read and comment on a blog if the content doesn’t interest me. If someone left some love on my blog post and I want to return the love, I’d scroll down until I find something that genuinely interests me–there’s no point on boosting a more recent post if you have nothing genuine and real to say!

I used to be more stressed with blogging when I had my old blog, but that was because I pushed myself to post every other day, but now I just do it twice a week, which is totally better for my sanity. ❤

  14. The one thing that sometimes sneaks up on me and stresses me out is the bloghopping. I simply am constantly busy with stuff and then answering comments and before I know it I have to be ASLEEP like, three hours ago. And then the cycle starts all over again which leaves little to no time for bloghopping or even checking out the blogs I follow and love. Like, if that isn’t the most stupid kind of stress ever.. [for a blogger, at least.]

But I know I just have to take it easy. Maybe I should simply blackmail my boss into paying me for bloghopping. Like “if you don’t give me work NOW, I’m going to bloghop until you do.” That oughta work. I hope. [Ugh, not..]

    Liked by 1 person

    1. YES, EXACTLY? Answering comments + blog hopping definitely pile up SO QUICKLY and it sucks to have little to no time. I’ve tried to become less stressing about it by not obligating myself to comment on every post as much!!

Yes!! Take it easy ❤ Ahaahaaa imagine if your blackmail actually let you bloghop and get paid for doing it!!

  15. To be honest, I was stressed even when I quit blogging, because I thought about how much I wanted to be blogging again, lol. I think the thing I stress most over is stats, and I really wish there was a surefire way of reducing stats stress. I’ve actually quit multiple times before because of stats stress, but this time I’m really going to try to find a solution to it. Your other tips are all things I’ve been thinking about doing, too, so it’s nice to feel like I’m on the right track.

    Thanks for this post!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ahaaa really?? When I quit, I was so relaxed and honestly forgot about most of my blog obligations (although I did talk to some blogging friends!!) Maybe try limiting yourself to only checking your stats weekly or something? I don’t have much stats stress, honestly?

I hope you find a solution though!!

      Thank you ❤ ❤

LMAO JU flash back to the time where i used to come home from school and comment on every new post in my reader EVER DAY. Wow, I was such a Good BEAN HHHMMM? To relieve stress I listen to music and if I’m alone I sing along with it and just LET IT ALL OUT. Reading a book as well or doing something quiet like writing in my journal also helps. Uhhh No. I don’t read webcomics BUT I SHOULD!!!

I agree with this post and thanks for the tips ofc fave. But don’t you think it can also be stress inducing when you know you haven’t blog hopped and you can only feel stress relieved when you’ve blog hopped? Idk, IS THIS JUST ME?? And yeah!! I’m actally not going to read osts I’m not interested in or follow blogs I don’t like and that’s GOOD! Because I’m only blogging FOR MEEEEEE. and you!!

you’re my fav toooo ❤ but YES IT USED TO BE SO STRESS INDUCING WHEN I HAVEN'T BLOG HOPPED but recently i've limited my caring bout that, so now I don't really feel too much stress about blog hopping? I'm only focusing on writing the actual posts for now lmao ❤

  18. ahahah I just wanna say I love your humour in this xD

So true… I am part of a team of bloggers who kinda “swears” to return comments and sometimes … I just have nothing I wanna comment on ! D: either I’m not a fan of reviews, or something hasn’t been posted lately and .. man I feel just so bad.. like im sorryyyy 😭Which, I feel no comment is better than commenting JUST for commenting, you feel me ? and if I can do *most* of them .. it’s not so bad, eh ? I still accomplished my duty ..

I recently decided to up my post to 3, sometimes 4, per month instead of 2 (sometimes 3). But I just cannot not get anxious if I have less than a week planned x) I also only work part-time so I get precious half days for me to write ! [I mostly work evening, closing at 11pm. which I also start around supper so I can write in middle of the night hah xD]

    1. thank youuu Kristina

Ahaaa yes there’s a secret covert operation of bloggers who swear to return comments but don’t lmaoo but honestly DON’T FEEL GUILTY. If you can think of a comment, comment!! But if you don’t have anything to comment on, don’t force yourself ❤

Post how many times you feel comfortable!! ❤ ❤ Ahhhh that sounds like a lot of work good luck on blogging!! I'm sure you're doing a fantastic job.
