The Rising Author Tag // My (Nonexistent) Writing & Aesthetics (!!) & Awkward Snippets

What is a rising author even considered? Someone who’s a writer?

Because I totally write!! Just not often!! Maybe like… two words per day, if you average the amount of words I’ve written over the last year, because I haven’t touched my old WIP in six months.

(Although I did work on a short story a little bit yesterday and today, so!!! Don’t say I never write!! I write sometimes!!)

Anyways, May tagged me for the Rising Author Tag so thank you to her for doing that! (If someone else also tagged me… I’m sorry, I forgot, I don’t write down what I’m tagged for anymore, and also I couldn’t find it in my notifications tab?*)

I wanted to do this tag because a) IT’S CAMP NANO Y’ALLLLL and b) I want to talk about my writing!! which I haven’t touched in a while!!! and c) I can’t think of other post ideas.**

*OKAY BUT WORDPRESS NEEDS TO START SORTING OUT PINGBACKS FROM THE COMMENTS TAB PLEASE?? THEY ALWAYS GET SUPER LOST IN MY NOTIFICATIONS RIP.

**This is 100% a valid reason for posting a tag.

  • Come up with 10 new questions

div2.2

What is your current WIP about, and what’s its status? (ie. plotting, writing, editing, etc.)

Well, right now I have TWO WIPs. (Also, does anyone else pronounce WIP as wee-eye-pee?? Because I do and it’s WEIRD.)

My first one is my main one, which is being plotted out right now! I have no idea what I’m going to do with it whatsoever, but only that the main character will be a Chinese girl and that it will be a contemporary!

I love not knowing what’s happening.

My second WIP is a short story that’s going to be sapphic and it will be about art students who live together and it’s literally based off of #2 on this article. (Rip my originality.) But it’s just supposed to be for fun, not something too serious like TNOSS (my old WIP) or anything.

div1.2

Do you plot things out and/or outline, or just figure it out as you write?

I used to just figure it out as I write, but then I literally didn’t know what to do ever and just stared at my computer trying to think of a plot to throw at my characters.

Now I (try) to plot and outline first.

div1.2

Out of the characters you’ve written so far, who are your favorites?

  • Zinka // from my old fantasy WIP, TNOSS
    — Zinka is actually a cinnamon roll on the inside but he loves to tease his friends (especially Noah) and he’s really clever.*
  • Night // from a partial short story that I wrote a year ago
    — Night is a child that is lowkey apathetic and she reminds me of the characters in Every Heart a Doorway.
  • Rena // from my current sapphic artsy short story
    — Rena is really kind and sweet but she’s also a confident muffin and she cares about her friends a lot but mainly Lily.

(I don’t really know how to describe each character??? AHhhhh?? “Rena is a cool, confident gal who knows what she wants.” IT SOUNDS LIKE A TALK SHOW.) (Also, it reminds me of this vine:)

*ZINKA’S NAME SOUNDS REALLY STUPID I FEEL WEIRD SAYING WHAT IT IS IN A BLOG POST.

div1.2

What’s your writing routine, if any? (ie. snacks, music, time of day, location, etc.)

I don’t have much of a writing routine, unless you count me grimacing/frowning in frustration because I have realized I have no idea how to actually write.

I do usually write at night, though. Around 9-10 pm. And either at my desk or on my comfy chair in my room.

(So I do have a routine, I guess???)

div1.2

Show your WIP’s aesthetic in images or words (or both)!

Here’s my aesthetic for my artsy sapphic short story!! I REALLY LIKE THE COLORS OF THIS ONE.

sss collage.jpg

This is my aesthetic for TNOSS!! (The Night of Shattered Stars is the full title, in case anyone was wondering.)

TNOSS COLLAGE.jpg

I used Pixabay and Pexels to find the images and Befunky to put them together into aesthetics. I was too scared of using Pinterest?? Because I don’t want to use copyrighted material on my blog?? (But I do use Pinterest for my Twitter aesthetics!!)

I’M REALLY PROUD OF THESE AESTHETICS.

div1.2

What (or who) motivates you to write?

Ummmm… I can’t really think of anything in specific? I feel like the general “being-able-to-actually-talk-about-writing” helps to encourage me to write, but it’s definitely not the main reason.

I think it’s probably mostly the fact that I would love to actually be a published author someday, and… to do that, I need to actually write.

all of you right now, at this revelation that you need to write to become a writer

div1.2

What do you find is the easiest part about writing? The hardest?

The easiest part about writing is probably picturing the scene in my head, and forming little pockets of plot in my head randomly in the day.

For example, if I’m warming up meat or rice- I’ll be like “MY MAIN CHARACTER SHOULD WARM UP MEAT OR RICE.” Or if I do something that’s embarrassing, I’ll be like “MY MAIN CHARACTER SHOULD DO THIS SO SHE’LL BE RELATABLE.” And then I’ll immediately forget about it the next day.

It’s fun!!

The hardest part about writing is probably writing. I want to be good at writing?? But also HOW DOES ONE. MAKE GOOD SENTENCES???

I want to try and describe the scene in detail but also I don’t want to make the sentences too simple or cluttered??? And now I realize that I should probably just spit all of the words out and leave those problems to my later, frustrated editing self.

Share a tiny (or large) snippet/excerpt of your writing, if you’re comfortable!

So, I was looking at some of my old writing from last year on Dropbox Paper, and this is from one of my old fabulism stories.

2018-04-03.png (901×147)

I FIND THIS VERY VERY FUNNY. Also, for some reason, I actually don’t hate the story that this is from. I might… continue it?? BUT THIS SNIPPET WITHOUT CONTEXT MAKES ME LAUGH.

I’m supposed to tag people here, but I’m going to not and just say that if you want to do this tag, just say I tagged you or something and I’ll agree. Because a) most people I know have already been tagged and b) tagging people takes work.

Here are the questions that May gave me!

  • What is your current WIP about, and what’s its status? (ie. plotting, writing, editing, etc.)
  • Do you plot things out and/or outline, or just figure it out as you write?
  • What are some book ideas you want to write in the future?
  • Out of the characters you’ve written so far, who are your favorites?
  • What’s your writing routine, if any? (ie. snacks, music, time of day, location, etc.)
  • Show your WIP’s aesthetic in images or words (or both)!
  • What (or who) motivates you to write?
  • What do you find is the easiest part about writing? The hardest?
  • What genre will you never try, and why?
  • Share a tiny (or large) snippet/excerpt of your writing, if you’re comfortable!

tell me your thoughts 2

What are your WIPs about? Do you still write frequently and how often? Do you have a writing routine? Do you like making aesthetics?

  3. YOUR AESTHETICS AHHHH I love them so, so much they’re gorgeous, I want to read your WIPs now thank you very much.
I relate a lot to the whole, not having a real routine and… I don’t know, not having written a lot in the past few months. I feel terrible and like I’m not even trying at this point, but IT IS SO HARD OKAY.
    Anyway, wonderful post!! ❤ ❤

  4. I would totally pick up a book titled The Night of Shattered Stars! We need a synopsis now!! And the aesthetics are so lovely!! you could totally get a good cover from them. ❤ You totally get better at writing by writing all the time. Its as simple and as spine breakingly hard as that!

  5. Shit you have to WRITE to become a writer? There goes my dream *faces war flashbacks of me not having even opened my WIP in MONTHS* can’t we just,,, become writers,, by thinking about our writing please

Your aesthetics are SO pretty and I love the sound of them, especially the artsy sapphic short story. Also that snippet is HILARIOUS because of the lack of context I have no clue what’s going on but I love it. How dare someone interrupt apple collecting time

    1. LMAO. THOSE WAR FLASHBACKS AHAHAHAA

Ahhhhh thank youuuuuu!! I’M DEAD AND HOPEFULLY I WILL GET AROUND TO ACTUALLY WORKING ON THEM?? WHO KNOWS.
Ahahaha I actually died when I saw that story. It is pretty out of context, even when it was inside the story lmao.

  6. Great answers! I commend you for trying to plot an outline before writing. I almost never do that, and that is why most of my stories have three chapters and then a blank void.
I love that you described Rena as a muffin. It’s inspired. You’re aesthetic is amazing!
I totally relate to the struggle to make good sentences. I wish eloquent sentences would just flow from my pen. But no. I’m like “I LOVE WRITING.” And then the next moment, “HOW DOES ONE EVEN USE WORDS??? WHAT IS DIALOGUE??? WHAT IS DESCRIPTION??? WHAT ARE CHARACTERS??? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLP!!!!!!” Yeah, it’s hard. But we will (maybe) survive.
Writing is my life!!! …And yet I have gone months on end without writing at all. And I haven’t worked on any major stories since last October… But I still love writing!!! Sometimes I feel pretty pathetic because some people churn out novel shaped things five times a year and I CAN’T. I have a lot of scribblings and only two of them are remotely novel-shaped. But that’s okay! I love writing and I will stick to it, no matter how lame my results are.
I have several WIPs that I am not actually working on…so they aren’t really progressing at all. But I hope to return to them someday. There’s one about a bloodthirsty book, one about a pocket watch with unique abilities, one about a girl in hostile fairy tale world that she doesn’t belong in so everyone is trying to kill her, one about a kid who is trying to transform his brother back into a human (he’s currently a garbage can), and several others that I can’t remember at the moment.
I like the IDEA of making aesthetics… but I never do it. And I don’t know if I would even know how if I tried.
    Great post!

    1. LMAOOO I actually laughed out loud at your blank void!! Thank you. I always am extremely inspired to describe my characters as food. Definitely inspired. ❤

I KNOW RIGHT? How do you even describe… motion?? IT'S SO HARD, AND HOW DO YOU MAKE RELATABLE DIALOGUE??

ME TOO. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE THAT CAN CREATE NOVELS TEN TIMES IN A YEAR AND I ALWAYS GET SO SHAKEN AT THEM. Ooooh I WANT TO READ THE ONE WITH THE HOSTILE FAIRY TALE WORLD THAT SOUNDS SO GOOD OMG.

      THank you so much!! ❤

      1. Thanks! It’s kind of nice to know I’m not the only one who struggles with these things. Also we can write our books at a turtles pace, and that’s okay! We’ll get there eventually.
Awesome, thanks, I hope I get around to writing it someday!
        You’re very welcome!
