Book Covers With People of Color on Them That Just Butter My Eggroll (part ii)

It’s time for the second half of the rainbow, my friends.

This is part two to my previous post about my favorite covers w/ models of color and also the second half of the cover-rainbow scheme!! ❤

(By the way! I was saving my rainbow Instagram picture to be the featured image of post I loved, and I used it on this post because I love you all. It was totally not because I ran out of any other pictures I could use.)

Here’s a fun, behind the scenes, extra-exclusive fact: these posts used to be called “fav book covers w/ poc models” before I remembered that that title was grammatically incorrect.

(I am currently writing this post in a Starbucks in nyc, and I’m wondering if people behind me look at my screen and are like “what the heck is this person writing”)

(also I’ve been here for like an hour and a half drinking the same cup of tea but also literally everyone else in here right now is doing this too?)

edit: y’all I went to a Starbucks again like, a week later and continued writing this post. it’s tradition now. I can only ever progress on writing this post when I am at a Starbucks.

My drinks from the first visit:

• Very Berry Hibiscus— 9/10. very good and yummy. also did you know it’s actually colorless until they put in the blackberries?? I was shocked
• Green Tea Lemonade— 8/10. this wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. maybe because I actually like green tea? It wasn’t that bitter although still not super sweet or anything

My current visit:

• Passion Iced Tea w/ Berry Hibiscus instead of water— 8/10. it’s pretty good. I do not recommend drinking this after eating Hazelnut Creme Filled Wafer Rolls. it will lose its taste (I just sucked up a ton of blackberry seeds and not going to lie, I am not a fan)

• THIS YELLOW COVER HAS ME IN TEARS!!! I want more yellow covers!! I was luckily able to get this on Download Now on edelweiss and actually, I’ve already read it 😎😎 (alongside Melanie, my actual fav!) and it was so good!

The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee [book depository / indiebound]

• I think I’ve already screamed about this, but it’s by F.C. YEE. The author of The Epic Crush of Genie Lo. He’s a damn wonder of the world and I’m so excited to read this Avatar-based novel. Also, this cover is so pretty? I love the art style sm.

Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno [book depository / indiebound]

• This cover works so well, and the background looks so beautiful and natural with the spray paint (??) or graffiti and I just love it, so much!! What dress is the model wearing in the cover, asking for a friend (definitely not me)

    

The Love & Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan [book depository / indiebound]

• Look at that girl front and center on the cover. It’s kind of amazing and beautiful. I want you all to know that I received some art prints from the library request campaign and I’m still screaming at how pretty the art is.

Winterglass by Benjanun Sriduangkaew [book depository / indiebound]

• I honestly cannot get over this cover, at all. Wow. Look at that girl on the cover. Look at the color palette. Look at those blur mark dot things that are so pretty and make the cover more special.

Dealing in Dreams by Lilliam Rivera [book depository / indiebound]

• I want a large-scale poster of this so I can tape it to my face and walk around with it.

  

   

Love from A to Z by S.K. Ali [book depository / indiebound]

• I didn’t even notice that this takes place in an airport originally because I was just so focused on how freaking cute they look together omg. I love this so much. I love this so much.

The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee [book depository / indiebound]

• Woah is that a hi-historical fiction with an actual poc as the main character?? *everyone is shocked* And the main character is Chinese.

Want by Cindy Pon [book depository / indiebound]

• I haven’t read this yet and honestly, what am I doing with my life. More importantly, have you guys seen the cover for the sequel?? It has an Asian girl on it and I am screaming. Anyways, this cover is so beautiful and so aesthetically pleasing.

   

We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal [book depository / indiebound]

• I loved the original cover a lot, but I love this one so much more. It makes me so happy to see the architecture on the back and the person of color right there. Also, this is so pretty to look at. It’s done so well?? Like, the archway outline is so subtle but prevalent. I just love it.

My So-Called Bollywood Life by Nisha Sharma [book depository / indiebound]

• Why doesn’t this book have more hype!! This cover is legitimately one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen, ever. Like look how pretty that girl is. I’m so mad that this book doesn’t get more attention.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan [book depository / indiebound]

• How could I write a post, ever, and not include the love of my life, Girls of Paper and Fire? Studies have shown that it’s scientifically impossible. I’m so excited to see the cover of the sequel because I know it’s going to be more bad-assery and beauty. I love this book so much. I love it so much. I love it. This is legitimately one of the prettiest covers in the world. Why isn’t it hanging up in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Louvre, or something?

Anyways, which of these covers do you like most? And did I miss any covers that you guys especially love? Have you read any of these & what did you think of them? Would you tape a cover to your face because it’s so pretty?
